5 Ways To Stay Focused
It’s easy to get sidetracked these days and staying focused is quite the task. Many blame technology, especially social media and the fact that we constantly go online or check our feeds every other minute. With so much information overload, a person can lose focus fast, which can really hurt how we get things done at work and in our lives. If you’re having trouble staying focused on something, here are a few tricks that will help keep your attention on the task at hand:
1. Get rid of distractions
The easiest and best way to stay focused is to simply eliminate any distractions. This can vary from person to person, depending on what distracts them the most. For some it’s their phones, others it can be the television or music running in the background. Whatever those distraction triggers are, just get rid of them! Turn off your phone, music, TV, you may even want to turn off your email for a uninterrupted period (yes, even work email) and anything else that will distract you from getting the job done and then reconnect later when the task is complete.
2. Still the mind
Our minds are always thinking about things, so in order to stay focused it’s sometimes best to just calm your mind. A great way to do this is with a bit of mediation that will help still your mind so that you can easily redirect your thoughts to focus on whatever you’re doing at the moment.
3. De-Clutter your surroundings
Clutter can be very distracting. By de-cluttering your desk, office, bedroom, or wherever else you are working, you’ll be able to think clearly on what you need to get done. Too much clutter can cause you to think about other things so it’s best if you start the week fresh by de-cluttering your space so that you can work in peace.
4. Simplify your world
Your To-Do list might have 100 things on it and some of them aren’t even relevant or timely. To stay focused, simplify your world by concentrating on only the important tasks that need to be done in a timely manner. Forget about everything else and remove anything that doesn’t need to be in your life so that you can really focus on what matters. If it isn’t necessary to be on your list, then it’s necessary to be off of your list!
5. Set goals
When you set goals for yourself, you’re more likely to stay focused so that you achieve them. Goals help you stay on track no matter what you’re doing and provide great inspiration when things start to distract you. One goal to start your day on the right foot to is make your bed. It is the best way to get your first “win” of the day and cross off one of many goals you’ll achieve throughout the day.
